The Human Factor
The Corcoran Company maintains a high caliber workforce.

At The Corcoran Company skilled workmanship is never taken for granted. The company has been able to maintain a high caliber workforce in today’s tight labor market through meaningful promotion practices, management, training and benefits. The result has been a low turnover on The Corcoran Company’s core staff of quality tradesmen and managers.

"Our people are committed to the customer satisfaction which directly impacts our success as a company," says Kevin Corcoran, The Corcoran Company President. Corcoran places a high premium on employee morale. Finding and keeping good workers requires that the management be able to relate well to the people in the field.

The Corcoran Company strives to ensure that workers are well-matched according to their background and abilities. The management staff in the field, specifically foremen and lead men, earn their positions by working their way up through the ranks. "We don’t take anyone’s word that they have the background," says Corcoran. "All of our foremen, for example, are not only masters of the trade, they’ve had to demonstrate to us their ability to handle management responsibilities."

The well-defined protocol for promotions elevates the morale in the field according to Corcoran.  "Everyone knows that our foremen have proven their abilities in the type of work they oversee."

"All of our foremen are not only masters of the trade, they’ve had to demonstrate to us their ability to handle management responsibilities."

New employees are screened closely for their background and skill levels. While The Corcoran Company provides a regular series of skill and safety training programs,  previous work experience is gauged carefully when assigning employees to specific projects.

"We don’t just turn workers loose on the jobsite," says Corcoran. "We watch their workmanship and make sure that person is providing quality service."

The Corcoran Company has been successful in retaining good employees through incentives such as a generous benefits package and profit-sharing. "We want our employees to know that they’re important to us, and important to our customers," says Corcoran, who adds that the company regularly awards high levels of performance and holds company functions to recognize employee achievements.
